Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Axminster is seeking a Postie to deliver letters and parcels on a fixed-term 9-month contract. You will work 37 hours per week on a rotating shift, over 5 days in 7 including weekends, with a daily start 07:30/15:30 and overtime opportunities.

You must hold a full manual UK driving licence, be physically fit to walk long distances, and be reliable. Training is provided, with a safe, outdoor role delivering to the community and building customer relations.

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 37hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 07:30/15:30*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work one in four Sundays at Exeter Mail Centre.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
