Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for Dawlish. The role involves delivering letters and parcels by van and on foot, with a 37-hour week on a rotating shift schedule that includes weekends. You will sort mail, serve customers, and work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Full manual UK driving licence required; driving assessment also required. This is a 10-month fixed-term contract with an opportunity to develop within the Royal Mail network.

Location: Dawlish Delivery Office, EX7 9PA

Job type: Fixed Term contract, 10 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.Working hours: 37hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 07:15/21:00* Supporting two separate shifts between 07:15 - 15:30 & 13:00 - 21:00 at peak periods, supporting Letter Deliveries & Parcel Deliveries

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work one in two Sundays at Exeter Mail Centre.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
