Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Swindon is looking for a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term 6-month contract. You will deliver letters and parcels in Swindon and work on a rotating schedule.

This role involves outdoors work, some weekend shifts, and driving a Royal Mail van. Full training and a uniform are provided; a full manual UK driving licence is required.

Location: Swindon Delivery Office, SN3 5JN

Job type: Fixed Term contract (6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30:00hours per week - workin g9 da ys in 14 across Monday - Sunday (5 days one week/4 days the other) - shifts fall between08:00/21:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work roughly 1 in 5 Sundays with shifts falling between 10:30 - 16:30.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
