Job summary

Royal Mail Group is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Barnoldswick to deliver letters and parcels on a 37-hour week, shift-based schedule, including weekends. You will drive a Royal Mail van, sort mail, and engage with customers while working outdoors in all weather.

The role includes full training, a uniform, and a rewarding public-service environment. The position is a 9-month fixed-term contract with overtime opportunities.

Qualifications

Location: Barnoldswick Delivery Office, BB18 6ZZ

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 Months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 37:00hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 08:00/17:00*

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You'll be required to work Sundays 11:00/17:00 at PendleDelivery Office, Stanworth Road, Nelson, BB9 7DS.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
