Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Brighton for a 6-month fixed-term contract. You will work 30 hours per week on a rotating schedule, delivering letters and parcels by van and on foot, while engaging with customers and working outdoors in varying weather.

The role requires a full manual UK driving licence (6 points max), the ability to pass a driving assessment, and physical fitness to handle 10kg+ mailbags. Training and uniform provided.

Job description

Location: Brighton Delivery Office, BN1 1AA

Job type: Fixed Term contract 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour * (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30.00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 or a 9 day fortnight across Monday - Sunday between 09:20-16:45, 13:00-20:30, 06:30-13:15 (Saturdays) and 10:00-18:00 (Sundays.)

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• - Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• - Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• - Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• - A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• - Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• - Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances , climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• - Reliable and self-motivated
• - Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• - Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• - Comfortable working outdoors and independently
