Job summary

Royal Mail Polegate Delivery Office is hiring a Postie on a 6-month fixed term contract. You will sort letters and parcels, deliver by van and on foot in your local area, and engage with customers in an active, outdoor role.

You’ll work a 30-hour week on a rotating schedule, including some weekends, with training, a uniform, and a Royal Mail van. A full UK manual driving licence is required and you must be fit to lift 10 kg+ mailbags.

Location: Polegate Delivery Office, BN26 6AA

Job type: Fixed Term contract 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30.00 hours per week – working a 9 day fortnight across Monday - Sunday – 09:20/16:00 or 14:00-21:00 during busy periods.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
