Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Lincoln. This fixed-term 6-month role involves delivering letters and parcels, sorting at the delivery office, and working a 30-hour week on a rotating shift schedule across 06:00-16:00 and 13:00-20:00, including some weekends.

You’ll be active, outdoors, and part of a trusted community service. You’ll receive full training, a uniform, and a Royal Mail van, with benefits varying by contract length.

Location: Lincoln Delivery Office, LN5 7NU

Job type: Fixed Term contract 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Saturday days between 06:00 and 16:00 and lates between 1pm and 8pm, Sunday 09:00 to 15:00

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You may be required to work Sundays at Lincoln Delivery Office.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
