Job summary

Royal Mail in Matlock is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to join a fixed-term 9-month contract. You will sort and deliver letters and parcels, use a Royal Mail van, and engage with customers on your route in all weather conditions.

The role involves a 30-hour week, weekend work, and a rotating shift pattern with a training period. Full UK driving licence required, and training provided.

Location: Matlock Delivery Office, DE4 3AA
Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 months)
Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30.00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 08:30/15:30*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Matlock Delivery Office and the Sunday shift pattern would be from 10:00/14:00*.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated

• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
