Job summary

Royal Mail in Dartmouth is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed term 12-month contract. You will sort and deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot, building relationships with customers while working outdoors.

This role requires a full manual UK driving licence, physical fitness for long walks, and a rotating weekend schedule. You’ll be trained and provided with a uniform and a red Royal Mail van.

Location: Dartmouth Delivery Office, TQ6 9BE

Job type: Fixed Term 12 months

Salary: £16.24 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 37 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 07:39/19:00

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Dartmouth Delivery Office.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
