Job summary

Royal Mail Kendal Delivery Office is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to deliver letters and parcels in Kendal. You will sort at the office, drive a Royal Mail van, and walk routes, building relationships with customers in all weather.

The role is 30 hours per week on a rotating shift including weekends, with full training, a uniform, and a red van provided. Overtime may be available and you’ll be part of a trusted service.

Job type: Permanent contract

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours:

30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 08:00-16:30 or 12:00-19:00

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
