Job summary

Royal Mail in Felixstowe is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a 12-month fixed-term contract. You will deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot, working outdoors in all weather, 35 hours per week across five days in seven, with Sundays at the Ipswich Delivery Office.

You will receive full training and a uniform, and must hold a full manual UK driving licence (max 6 penalty points) and be able to pass a driving assessment. The role is active, independent, and customer-focused.

Job type: Fixed Term contract (12 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 35 hours per week – working (5) days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 09:00am/15:00pm/15:00pm/21:00pm*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at (Ipswich) Delivery Office.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
