Job summary

Royal Mail in Ebbw Vale is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to join our team. The role involves delivering letters and parcels, working outdoors, and serving customers in the local area.

You’ll work a rotating schedule, including weekends, with full training and a uniform. The position is fixed term for 6 months, with 30 hours per week and a pay rate of £13.68 per hour plus overtime, paid monthly.

Qualifications

• Full manual UK driving licence (max 6 penalty points).
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, lift 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable and self-motivated with strong organisation and resilience.

Location: Ebbw Vale Delivery Office, NP23 6AD

Job type: Fixed Term 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 07:00/20:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Ebbw Vale Delivery Office.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
