Job summary

Royal Mail in Coventry is recruiting a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term 10-month contract. You will deliver letters and parcels across Coventry, walking long distances and driving a Royal Mail van, on a 30-hour week with rotating shifts (14:30–20:30) across five days in seven.

The role involves Saturday and Sunday work, working outdoors in all weathers, building relationships with customers, and handling items with care.

Qualifications

• A full manual UK driving licence is required.
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, and lift/carry 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable, self-motivated and customer-focused.
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment.
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently.

Job type: Fixed Term contract 10 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 14:30/20:30*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll Do

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
