Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Chelmsford is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to deliver letters and parcels across the local area. Training is provided, and you will work in a flag-ship delivery office in Chelmsford with a uniform and a red Royal Mail van.

The role is 32.5 hours per week, including Sundays, with a fixed term contract of 6 months. You will work outdoors, in all weather, and build strong community relationships while staying active and connected.

Qualifications

• Full manual UK driving licence required.
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, and lift 10 kg+ mailbags.

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 32.5 hours per week - working (5)days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 08:30/15:15*

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
