Job summary

Royal Mail is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Hornchurch to deliver letters and parcels across your local area. The role is fixed-term for 12 months, 37 hours per week, with Sundays required at Romford Delivery Office, and you’ll receive full training and a uniform.

You will drive a Royal Mail van, walk in all weathers, build relationships with customers, and be part of a trusted service that brings everyday items to communities.

Qualifications

• Full manual UK driving licence required.
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, lift 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable and self-motivated with strong organisational skills.

Job type: Fixed Term contract (12 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 37 hours per week – working (5) days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 7:00am/14:00pm and 13:00pm/21:00*

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
