Job summary

Royal Mail is seeking a Postie to join the Portland Delivery Office on a fixed-term 9-month contract. You will sort and deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot across your local area, working 37 hours per week on a rotating schedule that includes weekends.

You must hold a full manual UK driving licence and be physically fit for outdoor delivery in all weathers, with training provided and a confident, customer-focused approach.

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 37:00 hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 07:30/18:00*

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You'll be required to work Sundays at Dorchester Delivery Office, Bridport Road, Dorchester, DT1 1AA

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
