Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie in West Bromwich to deliver letters and parcels. You’ll work a 30-hour week on a rotating schedule, including Sundays, with training provided and a uniform. The role involves walking long distances and driving a Royal Mail van daily, in all weather conditions.

Includes weekend shifts and a fixed-term contract of 12 months. Overtime is paid, and you’ll be part of a trusted network delivering everyday items to the community.

Job description

Location: West Bromwich Delivery Office, B70 7RH

Job type: Fixed Term contract (12 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 08:00/15:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Coombs Wood Delivery Office.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

  • Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
  • Driving a Royal Mail van daily
  • Working in all weather conditions
  • Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
  • Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods
About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

  • A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
  • Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
  • Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
  • Reliable and self-motivated
  • Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
  • Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
  • Comfortable working outdoors and independently
