Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Mildenhall is recruiting a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to deliver letters and parcels on a rotating shift, including weekends. You will work from the Mildenhall Delivery Office, with a 32-hour week and a fixed term contract of 9 months.

This role requires a full manual UK driving licence, the ability to drive a Royal Mail van daily, and the fitness to walk long distances in all weathers. You will build relationships with customers and enjoy practical, active work outdoors.

Location: Mildenhall Delivery Office, IP28 7AW

Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 32:00 hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 08:00/15:30*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Bury St Edmunds Delivery Office.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast‑paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self‑motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer‑focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
