Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Kingston Upon Thames. The role is a 9-month fixed-term contract, 30 hours per week, with early and late shifts and a Sunday rota. You’ll drive a Royal Mail van and deliver letters and parcels, building relationships with customers in your community.

Full training is provided, along with a uniform and a daily outdoor, active job. Overtime is paid. The schedule includes weekends and rotating shifts to meet demand.

Location: Kingston Upon Thames Delivery Office, KT1 3AW

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months

Salary: £16.24 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – Early Shift: 8am - 3pm & Late Shift: 2pm - 8pm

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Kingston Upon Thames Delivery Office. Working on a rota of 1 in 3 Sundays from 10am - 4pm

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
