Job summary

Royal Mail is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Bicester to deliver letters and parcels on a rotating schedule. You'll work outdoors, with a full training provided, and be part of a trusted nationwide service.

You’ll walk long distances, drive a Royal Mail van, and meet customers daily. A full UK driving licence and fitness for long distances are required, with 37 hours per week across 5 days in 7, including some Sundays.

• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit for long walking distances and lifting mailbags.

Location: Bicester Delivery Office, OX26 4ZZ

Job type: Permanent contract

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 37.00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 08:00-16:00 and 13:30 - 20:00.

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work 3 in 4 Sundays at Delivery Offices local to Bicester.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
