Job description

Perch Group are looking for a Portfolio Performance Analyst.

At Perch Group, our vision is clear: to lead the UK debt purchase and collection industry by harnessing cutting-edge technology to drive ethical, efficient, and data-driven debt resolution.

Our annual mission is to empower hundreds of thousands of customers to positively engage with and resolve their outstanding debts. We do this through an empathetic and customer-centric approach that is at the heart of our success.

Could this be the next step in your career?

The Portfolio Performance Analyst role is a brand-new position within the Investment function and will be primarily responsible for conducting analysis, developing analytical tools, KPI’s and dashboards to audit and monitor all portfolio acquisitions made by the business as they progress through Perch Capital’s complex onboarding and collections processes, to ultimately drive portfolio performance.

The candidate will support the Portfolio Performance Manager in identifying the root cause for any inefficiencies, providing insights across each of a) gross collections, b) cost optimisation and c) customer journeys, highlighting any early warning signs associated with performance to the relevant stakeholders in good time. A key part of this role will be the interacting with the Pricing, Decision Science, Finance, Analytics, Implementation & Operational departments within the business to then collectively act on these findings.

We are looking for a highly analytical, commercially minded and self-motivated - someone who can translate insight into impact, with the ability to conduct root cause analysis and is articulate and confident in communicating with colleagues at every level of the business, including senior members and stakeholders. This is a new role that will report directly into the Portfolio Performance Manager.

So, what will your day-to-day look like?

The candidate will work as part of the Investment Director’s team, supporting the Portfolio Performance Manager across several areas including but not limited to:

  • [40%] Building analytical tools, developing dashboards and interacting with natural language AI tools, to query, track and monitor Perch Capital’s onboarding journey and strategies, across a range of KPI’s and SLA’s, both in aggregate across all portfolios acquired and tailored analysis for specific, strategic clients and cohorts of acquired debts (such as ‘Paying’ accounts), vs modelling assumptions. This includes the operational readiness to achieve projected targets (both recoveries & timings) of future placements of accounts to other entities within the Perch Group family, including Perch Verify (the Group’s in-house field connect service) and TMLS (the Group’s in-house law firm).
  • [30%] Conduct investigative in-depth analysis and ‘hand-holding’ of key strategic portfolios from a performance perspective, reviewing Perch’s systems and processes, tracking the flow of accounts through strategies, down to an account level if required, in order to quickly identify the root cause of any discrepancies in performance and feeding this information back to key stakeholders. This spans both gross collections and modelled costs.
  • [20%] Supporting the Portfolio Performance Manager in the running and managing of a number of key internal stakeholder meetings, where portfolio performance is discussed and early warning signs are raised, to be supported by analysis and MI, spanning a range of key milestones in the collections journey.
  • [10%] Working with Pricing, Decision Science, Finance and Analytics to identify and target any emerging trends of divergence vs underwriting and/or ERC assumptions, followed by granular deep dives into Perch processes to establish if root cause is driven by any operational or system failure or inefficiency and feeding back insights to improve alignment across the business and improve future forecasting accuracy.
Does this sound like you?
  • Strong academic background within a quantitative discipline, e.g. STEM fields(s), Economics, Finance and/or;
  • Up to 2 years’ relevant work experience of demonstratable experience in analysis within financial services (exposure to debt purchasing and/or credit related sectors is desirable).
  • Proven ability to manage multiple high value workstreams in parallel, delivering to tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to consolidate and interpret complex information from multiple sources.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to understand and analyse large data sets to identify errors or gaps in a process (an audit or equivalent background would be highly suited to this role).
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to challenge and escape where appropriate.
  • Knowledge of UK consumer credit, FCA regulations, and debt purchasing market dynamics desirable.
  • Excellent numerical, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong MS Office skills required where experience in Python and Power BI would be highly beneficial. Any exposure to or demonstratable interest in the use of agentic AI prompting / querying in natural language (to query large data sets) would be highly advantageous.
  • A self-motivated individual capable of using own initiative to drive improvements in business processes, working both autonomously and collaboratively.
  • Ambitious, driven individual with a strong desire to pursue a career within financial services.
