Newnham College wishes to recruit a permanent, full-time Porter to join the busy Porters’ Lodge team. The role involves daytime shifts on a rota averaging 37.5 hours per week and duties include overseeing security and health and safety, and assisting students, staff and visitors, including conference and B&B guests.

You should be calm, professional and capable of handling a wide range of issues in a customer-oriented environment.

Job description

Newnham College wishes to recruit a permanent, a full time Porter to join the busy team working days in the Porters’ Lodge. Traditionally a focal point for information and assistance for students, Fellows, staff, and all other visitors including conference and B&B guests, the role of Porter is a high profile one, overseeing security and health and safety. This role would suit a calm, professional individual, with experience gained in a customer orientated environment, who is able to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide range of issues.

Working day shifts on a rota which involves an average of 37.5 hours a week, the salary is paid at spine point 31 on the University Single salary spine, which currently equates to £28,778 per annum. The day rota is worked 3 days on (1 early, 1 middle and 1 late), followed by 2 days off. This post is pensionable under the College’s attractive contributory pension scheme, with an employer contribution rate of 14.5%. Holiday entitlement equivalent to 33 office days per year (inclusive of bank holidays), and other benefits include, your Birthday as an additional day of paid leave, access to the College’s Health Cash plan, Medicash, a free meal when on duty, free car parking and free use of the College’s gym facilities.
