Job summary

East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust is recruiting porters to provide safe patient movement and excellent service across our hospitals in Stevenage and surrounding sites. You will move patients by bed, wheelchair or trolley, transfer supplies and support clinical teams in a fast-paced, 24/7 environment. Full training will be provided.

A polite, responsive approach to patients and staff is essential. Previous hospital or customer service experience is desirable but not required as training is

Qualifications

• Must be able to move patients safely in a busy hospital.
• Polite, responsive attitude when dealing with patients, visitors and staff.
• Willingness to work a 24/7 rotating shift pattern.

Responsibilities

• Move patients by bed, wheelchair or trolley.
• Transfer medical items and carry out related transfers where required.
• Take specimens to the pathology lab and deliver to departments as needed.
• Transport deceased patients to the mortuary in a respectful manner.
• Report unsafe situations and comply with Trust health and safety policies.
• Participate in training and apply skills to daily tasks.

We are recruiting for Porters who share our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients., You will move patients by bed, wheelchairs, and trolleys, change medical gases, collect blood products, take specimens to the pathology lab, take deceased to the mortuary and full training will be provided. You will also need to be flexible as we are a 24/7 department 365 days of the year Be familiar with appropriate Health and Safety Policies and Procedure Take reasonable care of yourself and anybody who may be affected by your actions / non-actions Co-operate with the Trust in maintaining suitable standards of Health and Safety including adhering to all Trust Policies and Procedures, always work in compliance with rules and working practices. Report all unsafe situations, incidents and accidents to your supervisor or Manager. Participate in training as appropriate and put your skills and knowledge into practice.Training will be identified and carried out to fulfil the requirements of this job description Any other duties as appropriate to the grade that may be determined from time to time.

You will have a polite and responsive approach to patients, visitors, and staff, with the ability to work a rotating shift pattern to meet the needs of our service. Previous experience in a hospital or customer focused role is desirable but not essential as full training is given.
