Job summary

Sodexo in Ipswich Hospital is seeking a Porter to support daily hospital operations by safely moving patients, equipment and medical supplies across wards and departments.

You will guide patients, visitors and staff to locations, handle waste according to health and safety standards, and transport specimens and blood products securely.

This role is 37.5 hours per week with weekend enhancements, includes Sodexo Benefits and an Enhanced DBS processed through the company.

Qualifications

• Must have physical stamina to walk/stand for extended periods.
• Awareness of health and safety practices in a hospital setting.
• Calmness under pressure and adaptability to changing tasks.
• Strong team ethic with ability to work independently when needed.
• Understanding of confidentiality, emotional resilience and sensitivity in difficult situations.
• Excellent communication and listening skills.

Responsibilities

• Guide patients, visitors, and staff to correct hospital locations.
• Handle waste collection and recycling while maintaining health and safety standards
• Follow all relevant policies, procedures, and management systems
• Safely transport patients between wards using appropriate equipment and care
• Deliver specimens, samples, and blood products securely across departments
• Support with respectful transfer of deceased patients
• Provide additional porter services such as mail delivery, pharmacy runs, moving furniture, and transporting records or stock

Please note: This role will require an Enhanced DBS which the company will provide, however we can not provide a timescale at the moment on how long this will take to complete as they are reliant on external agencies.
