Job summary

Main duties of the job

1. Provide a high-quality, prompt, and efficient Porter service to patients, staff, and visitors, including the movement of patients, equipment, documentation, food, etc., in a safe and efficient manner.
2. Maintain clean and safe equipment and environment in accordance with the Porter SLA, respond to service needs, and seek to improve productivity and quality.
3. Ensure personal conduct is of the highest standard, exhibiting courtesy and efficiency to patients, visitors, and service users at all times.
4. Work in line with health, safety, security, and Trust policies, including infection control, and assist with emergency procedures as needed.
5. Act in accordance with the Trust's Values and Behaviours initiative.

Job description

Successful candidates will be reliable, flexible, team players with good interpersonal and communication skills, and a proven track record of delivering high-quality Porter services, exhibiting courtesy and efficiency at all times.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Conveyance of patients by wheelchair, trolley, stretcher, bed, including escort duties, safely and appropriately.
• Collection and delivery of furniture, mattresses, linen, medical records, x-rays, pharmacy boxes, specimens, blood products, post, waste, equipment, supplies, and food, using appropriate methods.
• Identification and movement of medical gases, maintaining gas banks per regulations.
• Collection and delivery of deceased patients to the mortuary with dignity.
• Use of the biometric blood tracking system for blood products, ensuring correct transport (e.g., cool boxes for 2+ units).
• Attend medical emergencies, including cardiac arrests, with resus trolley/bag.
• Assist patients in transferring from trolleys to beds with nursing staff assistance.
