Port of Greenock is seeking a Port Operative to help keep goods moving safely and efficiently through the port, across warehousing and quay-side operations. You will support drivers and hauliers and work with experienced teams to develop skills and confidence in a range of port activities.
You will operate computer and weighing systems, assist in maintenance tasks where required, and uphold Peel Ports safety standards. Training will be provided for equipment such as FLTs and cranes.

As a Port Operative at the Port of Greenock, you will help keep goods moving safely and efficiently for customers through the port , working across warehouse and quayside operational activities. You will help service our customers, support drivers and hauliers arriving at the port and work closely with experienced colleagues who will share their knowledge, invest in your development and help you build confidence across a range of port activities.
You will demonstrate commitment to working safely, following training, and working across a variety of skills and duties where appropriate, including assisting the Maintenance department as required. All the while working closely with your team and supervisors.
Completing all operational duties in an effective and safe manner, you will also operate computer and weighing systems, whilst also cleaning company machinery, work areas, infrastructure and general housekeeping.
You may already be in an operational role or keen to move to your first role at this level. You will have proven experience in an industrial /Port environment, with experience operating Loading Shovels, FLTs and Telehandlers desirable. Due to the demands of the role you will be physically fit with the ability to work at heights and willing and able to work flexibly to meet operational demands. You will be committed to maintaining and contributing to Peel Health and Safety standards, policies and procedures. Knowledge of TASCC scheme compliance would be advantageous.
You will have good IT skills with the ability to use Microsoft Office packages. Previous experience of port handling equipment including FLT’s, Loading Shovels and Mobile Harbour Cranes would be desirable, however full training will be given.
This role is classified as safety critical. Your duties in this role may include driving on site; working at height and/or in confined spaces; operating/driving plant; manual handling; lone working; night work. If successful in your application, you will be required to attend a pre-placement medical assessment to confirm your fitness for work in this role.
