Job summary

Bunge UK Limited in Portland, Dorset, is seeking an Operations Lead to support the Site Manager in the safe, compliant and efficient day-to-day running of the Portland site, providing operational coordination and leadership support across labour planning, compliance, reporting, vessel activity and site communication.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong operational awareness, sound judgement and the ability to support people, plant and processes in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Experience with grain handling machinery and equipment.
• Knowledge of Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) and Risk Assessments.
• Experience managing Permits to Work and high-risk tasks.
• Experience in inspections, audits and compliance monitoring.
• Experience with contractor management and site procedures.
• Ability to lead during emergencies and ensure business continuity.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations in port/logistics.
• Experience in industrial or port handling facilities.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Support the Site Manager and coordinate with Maintenance Coordinator and Site Administrator on daily site activity.
• Coordinate labour, rotas, workflow planning, site readiness and vessel discharge.
• Manage open/close routines and complete documentation.
• Promote and enforce health & safety, SSOW, PTW and compliance standards.
• Ensure SSOW, risk assessments and method statements are implemented and followed.
• Verify PTW requirements are applied, issued, monitored and closed per procedures.
• Conduct routine inspections, audits and operational assurance checks.
• Coordinate with Health and Safety, Maintenance and third-party support to maintain safety.
• Coordinate plant availability and maintenance planning to ensure continuity.
• Ensure records and vessel paperwork are completed accurately and on time.
• Communicate with site personnel, head office, contractors and stakeholders.
• Assist inductions, toolbox talks and staff development.
• Resolve operational issues with attention to financial implications.
• Review processes for continuous improvement across the site.
• Provide hands-on operational support during daily activities and discharges.
• Act as a key on-site contact in the Site Manager’s absence.
