Job summary

Our client is a major UK port delivering trade and passenger services. We seek a Fire Safety Manager/Engineer to lead the Fire Safety Management System, ensure regulatory compliance and drive continuous improvement across estates, buildings and marine facilities.

You will develop the Port Fire Safety Strategy, oversee Fire Risk Assessments and provide technical assurance for capital projects, engineering works and building compliance.

Qualifications

• Degree in Fire Engineering or related field.
• Advanced fire safety competence (EQF Level 5 / RQF Level 4 or above).
• ABBE Level 4 Fire Risk Assessment qualification.
• IFTC Level 4 Fire Risk Assessment qualification.
• Knowledge of the Building Safety Act and related fire safety legislation.
• Membership of GIFireE/MIFireE or working toward membership.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Flexibility to participate in an on‑call rota.
• Ability to access heights and vessels within a harbour environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Fire Safety Management System and governance framework.
• Develop fire safety policies, standards and procedures.
• Manage and assure statutory Fire Risk Assessments across the estate.
• Undertake and validate complex Fire Risk Assessments.
• Provide technical advice on active and passive fire protection measures.
• Support Engineering, Estates, Capital Projects and Building Compliance teams.
• Review designs and builds for fire safety compliance.
• Lead fire safety audits, inspections and reporting.
• Develop and test emergency plans, evacuation strategies and drills.
• Manage contractor fire safety arrangements and hot work controls.
• Liaise with Kent Fire & Rescue Service, insurers and regulators.
• Produce executive‑level reports, KPIs and improvement plans.
• Conduct fire safety training needs analysis and stakeholder engagement.
