Job summary

National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) seeks a Lead Policy Engineer (Transformers and Static Wound Equipment) to shape policy across NGED and the wider industry. As SME, you’ll steer standards, oversee technical leadership, and represent NGED in national and international groups.

You’ll balance safety, cost, and performance while supporting global tendering and policy reviews. Hybrid work with office presence in NGED licence areas.

Qualifications

• Experience in policy/document management and engineering policy.
• Significant experience in transformer design, testing and investigation.
• Knowledge of legacy network transformer infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Approve development and review of policy communication materials.
• Provide up-to-date expertise on UK and international policies.
• Develop and improve equipment/maintenance techniques for safety and efficiency.
• Support Procurement through global tendering processes.
• Represent NGED on national/international committees and external consultations.
• Maintain deep technical knowledge of Transformers and Static Wound Equipment.
• Contribute to Asset Risk modelling and long-term planning.
• Deliver work on time, within budgets and to quality standards.
