Job summary

National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) is seeking a Lead Policy Engineer to govern standards for Transformers and Static Wound Equipment. You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and guide policy at national and international levels, balancing safety, cost, and reliability.

You will report to the Engineering Policy Manager, lead expert reviews, and support tendering and design approvals while shaping NGED policy strategy across the business and industry.

Qualifications

• Experience in policy/document management within engineering.
• Significant experience in transformer design, testing and transformer investigation.
• Chartered Engineer status or willingness to pursue via IET or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Approve the development and review of policy-aligned materials.
• Provide up-to-date expertise on UK and international policies.
• Develop and improve equipment, installation and maintenance techniques to enhance safety, efficiency and lifecycle cost.
• Support global tendering processes and procurement.
• Represent NGED on national and international committees and responses to consultations.
• Maintain deep technical knowledge of Transformers and Static Wound Equipment.
• Provide input into Asset Risk modelling and long-term planning.
• Deliver work on time, within budgets and quality standards.
• Support R&D and Innovation activities related to Transformers and Static Wound Equipment.
