Job summary

National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) seeks a Lead Policy Engineer (Transformers and Static Wound Equipment) to shape policy standards and steer engineering policy across NGED and the industry. You will lead technical guidance, support tenders, and review deviations while balancing safety, cost and reliability.

The role reports to the Engineering Policy Manager and offers hybrid work with two office days weekly, with potential regional placement across NGED licence areas.

Qualifications

• HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered Engineer status or willingness to pursue.

Responsibilities

• Approve development and review materials communicating policy changes.
• Provide up-to-date expertise on UK and international policies.
• Develop equipment, installation and maintenance techniques to improve safety and lifecycle cost.
• Support the Procurement team through global tendering processes.
• Represent NGED on committees and lead responses to consultations.
• Maintain deep technical knowledge of Transformers and Static Wound Equipment.
