Job description

The Role

This is a great chance to join a busy policy team working on technology law and digital transformation in the legal sector. You will be part of the Private & Commercial Law team, shaping policy in areas important to our members and their firms.

Technology law & digital transformation is a growing policy area driven by:

  • Increased government and regulator activity,
  • Advances in emerging technologies such as AI, which the legal profession is adopting to varying degrees,
  • Members' growing demand for information on digital transformation opportunities and assistance in managing the risks of emerging tech.

This exciting and varied role will utilize your expertise, knowledge, and skills to make a meaningful impact for our members, their clients, and the rule of law.

This role is a fixed-term contract for 18 months.

What we're looking for

  • Ability to engage with and influence legal policy development across government, parliament, regulators, and the legal profession.
  • Skill in spotting opportunities to develop credible and persuasive policy positions and recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of the UK's legal and political systems, with a good working knowledge of cross-cutting technology policy issues. Some expertise in lawtech and digital transformation within professional services, or the ability to quickly develop this knowledge.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders, including colleagues, office holders, members, and external partners, and to represent the Law Society credibly.

What's in it for you

  • An excellent opportunity to work in a forward-thinking membership organization dedicated to supporting solicitors, protecting access to justice, and promoting the rule of law.
  • A strong reputation for excellence and legal expertise, with a commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and a culture of trust, clarity, respect, and excellence.
  • Hybrid working (minimum eight days a month at our Chancery Lane office), a flexible benefits package, a friendly environment, and career development opportunities.

Please note: Internal applicants are subject to Pay Policy.

This role is full-time, Monday to Friday. If you prefer a different working pattern, contact Nick Denys for arrangements.
