The London Assembly scrutinises the Mayor's activities by questioning the Mayor about their decisions. The Assembly also investigates issues of importance to London.
There are 25 Assembly Members, elected every four years at the same time as the Mayor. The Secretariat works for the Assembly to support its activities. The Communications Team supports the service to promote the work of the Assembly through press office, social media, publicity, and events.
About The Role
To deliver projects and produce research, briefings, and reports for the London Assembly, its committees, and its Members.
Principal accountabilities
- Produce and deliver projects, including research, briefings, reports, and outputs for the London Assembly's Budget and Performance Committee and its Members, under the direction of the Assistant Director and Senior Policy Adviser(s).
- Manage and deliver projects and outputs effectively and timely, working closely with team members and the wider Secretariat to maximize quality, profile, and impact.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with officers within the Assembly's Secretariat, Assembly Members, and officers within the GLA to ensure support and delivery for projects, proper briefing, and timely issue escalation.
- Maintain effective relationships with partner organizations to ensure stakeholder management and enhance the reputation of the London Assembly.
- Ensure all work and outputs meet high standards of communication and research.
- Adopt a flexible approach to work, participating in multidisciplinary, cross-departmental, and cross-organizational groups and project teams.
What Your Day Will Look Like
- Review budget submissions and financial reports, identifying key issues and trends.
- Support all London Assembly Committees with financial data and information.
- Brief Assembly Members on financial issues.
Skills, Knowledge, And Experience
Essential criteria include:
- Solid analysis and briefing/report drafting skills in a policy context.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new topics and financial policy issues.
- Knowledge of political, policy, and governance issues relevant to London and the UK.
- A relevant financial degree or equivalent professional qualification, or demonstrable financial analysis or scrutiny skills.
Desirable criteria include:
- Experience operating effectively in a political environment.
- Experience managing and delivering complex policy projects in relevant policy areas.
