Job summary

West Mercia Police is recruiting Police Staff Investigators (PSI) at PIP level 2 on a fixed-term contract to 31 March 2027. Roles are based in Hereford, Kidderminster, Redditch, Shrewsbury, Telford and Worcester, with travel between locations possible and no home working.

We welcome both PIP 2 and PIP 1 candidates who meet the role requirements. Vacancies are full-time preferred, with part-time considered; closing date 30 September 2026; CV-only submission.

Qualifications

• PIP 2 qualification and applicable police staff investigators experience.
• PIP 1 eligibility considered if requirements are met.
• Experience in criminal investigations and evidence gathering helpful.

Responsibilities

• Prevent and detect crime through investigative work.
• Participate in evidence gathering involving victims, witnesses, technical sources and suspects.
• Travel between listed locations as required for investigations; no home working.

We are seeking a number of PIP 2 qualified Police Staff Investigators based in the below locations:

We will consider PIP 1 qualified candidates if they meet the requirements detailed on the attached role profile. Please pay particular attention to the knowledge, experience and key skills on the role profile.

Shrewsbury

Worcester

Redditch

Hereford

Although the roles are based in these locations there may be a requirement to travel between these locations to support investigations.

We would ideally like full time people but we will consider part time candidates where it would work with our requirements.

The main purpose of the role is to prevent and detect crime. To investigate criminal activity. To actively participate in a wide range of evidence gathering and criminal investigation tasks involving victims, witnesses, technical sources and suspects

There will be no home working with these roles.
