PMLD Teaching assistant

Sense Education have PLMD Teaching Assistant position available in a specialist unit for young people with SEND in the Whitehaven area. The roles is for a person who is confident to support young people with additional needs in the classroom. We welcome people to apply from all backgrounds.

We are looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support primary and secondary aged students with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and complex needs. Experience is desirable, can be personal or professional experience.

Job Role and Responsibilities:

• Assist the class teacher in providing tailored learning experiences for students
• Support students with PMLD through sensory-based and communication-led activities
• Provide personal care and mobility support where required
• Behaviour and pastoral support
• Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with students
• Practical approach to meet the individual needs of students
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Caring, compassionate, and a good listener
• Willing to work 1:1 and in small groups with students
• Ensure safeguarding of students
• IF you have a Psychology / Criminology / Health & Social Care degree, it’s an excellent use of your degree
• This Learning Support Assistant role is an excellent opportunity to work closely and network with other teams of professionals, gaining relevant experience while expanding your knowledge and skillset. This role will give you essential experience within a challenging yet rewarding setting, career progression routes include SEN Teacher, Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, and various Child Psychology pathways.

Qualifications/Experience:

• A recognised childcare/ care qualification or equivalent.(NVQ, CACHE, Degree, or equivalent)
• A current DBS that is registered with the update service (if you don’t have an up to date DBS we can assist in applying for one)
• Knowledge or experience working with SEND
• Be reliable, punctual, trustworthy

School hours are 8.30- 3.30

Location –Whitehaven

Role Type:Full time / Temp – Perm

Pay Rate:£14.60 – £16.90 per hour

We will offer training and support in the position, everyone who works for us is required to complete Safeguarding Training. When you become part of the Sense team we are here to support you with your career.

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
