Job summary

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a skilled Plumber/Heating Engineer to join our maintenance team at Lowestoft. The role involves a comprehensive service across Suffolk and Norfolk sites, with emphasis on safety, fault finding, and compliance.

Training will be provided where needed, with opportunities for career development. Candidate should be flexible and motivated; Gas Safe registration is preferred but not essential.

Qualifications

  • Two years experience with high technical versatility and flexibility.
  • Gas safety knowledge or willingness to train is desirable.
  • Full UK driving licence is required to operate Trust vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive maintenance services including planned, routine, and reactive tasks.
  • Repair and maintain a wide range of mechanical services and equipment on site.
  • Fault finding and diagnosis; ensure estate is safe and compliant.
  • Participate in On-Call rota for out-of-hours cover.

Norfolk & Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) are looking for a skilled Plumber/Heating Engineer to join our existing multi-disciplinary professional maintenance team in providing a safe environment for all service users, staff and visitors across our Suffolk & Norfolk sites. Being based in Lowestoft

The successful candidate would be flexible, enthusiastic, self-motivated and confident in being part of a team that provides a comprehensive maintenance service in a unique varied environment and ideally Gas Safe Registered, however this is not essential as we will support and provide relevant training for the right person.

Main duties of the job

Duties & Responsibilities Associated with this role include but are not limited to:

  • Providing a comprehensive service to include all aspects of planned, routine and reactive maintenance
  • The repair and maintenance of a wide range of mechanical services and equipment on site
  • Fault finding and diagnosis
  • Routine inspections to ensure our estate is safe and fully compliant
  • Ensuring all work is performed in accordance with the requirements of Health & Safety and other relevant legislation
  • You will be required to participate as a member of the On-Call Team providing an emergency out of hours service on a rotational basis

Person specification
Essential criteria
  • Ability to work at height using ladders/ scaffolding, access platforms and in confined spaces
Experience
Essential criteria
  • Two years experience having demonstrated high technical verstility and flexability
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a mental health or secure services hospital environment
Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • Recognised and registered CITB or EITB minimum three year apprenticeship in plumbing/mechanical engineering AND/OR City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering Parts 1, 2 & 3 or Plumbing NVQ 1, 2 & 3 OR BTEC, ONC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Full UK driving licence for ability to drive Trust vehicles
Desirable criteria
  • BTEC, ONC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Accredited Certificate Scheme (ACS) Gas Qualified
