Job summary

Metro Rod Norwich is recruiting a Reactive Plumbing & Drainage Engineer on a full-time permanent basis in Norwich. Salary is £33,000‑£38,000 plus on-call, overtime and benefits. The role focuses on plumbing works with additional duties in drainage call-outs, blockages and related tasks.

The successful candidate will be flexible, eager to learn, and capable of developing specialist skills in leak detection. A driving licence and a proactive, customer‑oriented approach are essential.

Qualifications

• Proven plumbing experience; NVQ Level 2 preferred but time-served acceptable.
• Full UK driving license is essential.
• Strong customer service and communication skills required.
• Willingness to learn drainage and leak detection services.

Responsibilities

• Carry out plumbing works and assist with reactive drainage call-outs.
• Support blockage clearances and related drainage tasks.
• Participate in an on-call rota with overtime paid at 1.5x.
• Opportunities for training and progression into specialist leak detection services.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking a plumbing-focused engineer who is flexible, eager to learn, and interested in developing additional specialist skills within the drainage and leak detection industry.

The successful candidate will primarily carry out plumbing works but will also be expected to support reactive drainage call-outs, blockage clearances, and related works as part of a varied day-to-day role.

This role also forms part of an on-call rota, with overtime paid at 1.5x standard hourly rate.

There will be opportunities for further training and progression into specialist leak detection services.

What skills & experience are we looking for?

We are looking for a competent Plumbing Engineer who is used to reactive work. Ideally, we require an NVQ Level 2 however are open to someone with time-served experience as an alternative.

Essential:

• Proven plumbing experience (and ideally NVQ Level 2 qualification)
• Full UK driving license
• Strong customer service skills
• Problem solving skills
• Positive and proactive approach to work and customer service
• Willingness and interest in learning drainage services
• Able to participate in an on-call rota system
