Job description

Onward seeks a Plumber for a full-time position based across Merseyside. You will deliver high‑quality plumbing maintenance and repair services within domestic properties, responding to planned works and reactive call‑outs. The role involves diagnosing faults, fitting fixtures, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. A multi-skilled allowance of up to £750 is available for accredited tiling or plastering abilities. The package includes a salary of £35,300, a van with fuel card, and power tools. You will join a standby rota for additional earnings, receive 32 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, and access a pension scheme with matched contributions up to 10%.

About The Role

What you can expect from us £35,300 per annum with opportunity for additional earnings through participation in our ‘out of hours’ standby service on a rota basis. Multi skilled allowance of up to £750 per annum when accredited as multi skilled in tiling, plastering, or plumbing, subject to conditions. Van (for business use, including home to work) and power tools provided. Fuel Card for business use. 32 days annual leave plus bank holidays. As a Plumber, you'll play an important role in maintaining and improving our customers’ homes, carrying out a wide range of repairs and maintenance work to a high standard. The purpose of the role is to deliver property maintenance services, undertaking repair activities predominantly within customer’s homes, but also voids and for other clients as required. Please note that a full UK driving license is required for this role.

Key Responsibilities

Delivery In line with Onwards specification or approved best practice assess, coordinate and undertake the most cost effective repair solution delivering value for money. Organising materials, providing detailed information, effectively communicating with customers, other stakeholders and colleagues to deliver a high quality service. Ensure an adequate store of materials are available to operatives, including van based stock. Proactively organise workload to ensure the delivery of an efficient and effective service at all times.

Customer Service To provide excellent customer service whilst ensuring prompt work of the required standard. Liaison and technical advice Liaise with clients, customers and colleagues regarding access, safe working practices, and assessment of repairs requirements and progress of repairs. Quality Ensure all work is delivered to a high standard. Records To complete jobs on PDA’s and maintain other records as required including access details, materials used, job progression and follow on information. Health and Safety Undertake work activities in line with all health and safety requirements demonstrating a sound working knowledge of key legislative health and safety information and safe working practices. Assisting the promotion of Health & Safety. Work equipment Operation of light machinery, plant and powered hand tools in accordance with recognised safety procedures. To be responsible for the safe use and daily maintenance of allocated Company vehicles.

Skills and experience Essential

Sound knowledge of building construction, components, building trades and applicable building regulations. Experience of working in a customer focussed service. Proven ability to deliver a quality customer centred repairs service. Experience of working in a target driven environment. Sound knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to the post and associated tasks undertaken within it, in line with HASAWA 1974. Experience of using PDA technology (hand held/mobile working technology) to record jobs. A Full UK Driving Licence and access to your own car.

Skills and experience Desirable

Experience of working within a commercial and domestic property maintenance environment. Experience of delivering services within the social housing sector.

Qualifications Essential

Minimum of L2 NVQ or equivalent qualification in Plumbing and relevant experience. Appropriate CSCS card.

Qualifications Desirable

Hold relevant health & safety qualifications which relate to the sector/construction industry in general. Asbestos awareness training. Relevant power tool training. Manual handling training. Appropriate and current training in COSHH & PPE. Access equipment and working at height training e.g. mobile work platforms.
