Job summary

An established industry player is seeking a dedicated Assistant to join their News Scheduling & Planning team. This exciting role involves planning and coordinating schedules for television news channels, ensuring that all aspects are approved and transmission-ready. You will be the first point of contact for the Playout Planning Unit, liaising with various teams to maintain accurate data and develop efficient administrative systems. Salary: £25,400 - £30,550 plus London Weighting, depending on relevant skills, knowledge, and experience. The expected salary range reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Contract type: 5-month attachment/FTC

Location: London Broadcasting House. This is a hybrid role, balancing office and home working.

Job Introduction

The BBC News Scheduling & Planning team supports channels by creating innovative schedules to meet TV news strategies. This role involves planning and coordinating schedules for BBC television News channels, ensuring all planning aspects are approved and schedules are transmission-ready.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Process and verify all programme and junction data for the final schedule, liaising with Playout Programme Planners.
  2. Serve as the first point of contact for the Playout Planning Unit.
  3. Identify and resolve initial issues, escalating as needed.
  4. Coordinate with Marketing and Programme teams for continuity lists, maintaining accurate data in the scheduling system.
  5. Prepare and adjust schedules in advance of transmission.
  6. Ensure smooth planning processes and develop new procedures as necessary.
  7. Maintain relationships with data and media suppliers.
  8. Be aware of schedule changes' impacts on timings and billing.
  9. Assist with administrative tasks for the Playout Programme Planner.
  10. Develop and maintain efficient administrative systems.
  11. Operate within policies and editorial guidelines.
  12. Build relationships with scheduling teams, understanding their roles and challenges.
Candidate Requirements
  • Understanding of transmission schedule structures and associated systems.
  • Experience in Media or Presentation Planning is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of scheduling processes and broadcast systems like MediaGenix WhatsOn.
  • Attention to detail with data accuracy.
  • Interest in live news programming and current affairs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in team environments, managing multiple projects, and meeting deadlines.
