Job summary

Oracle in Bristol is seeking a hands-on Java Platform Software Engineer for a hybrid role with office presence in central Bristol. You will own defined platform areas, design and deliver scalable services, and work across engineering, product and support teams to ensure reliability and a great developer and customer experience.

You will build APIs, lead reviews, and help strengthen secure coding and observability while aligning with architecture principles.

Qualifications

• Strong Java development experience and production-quality software delivery.
• Experience designing and maintaining APIs and services in distributed or cloud environments.
• Ability to debug moderately complex issues across services, integrations and components.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve platform components and SDK areas with clear contracts for multi-tenant use.
• Design, build, test and optimise Java features meeting business and operational needs.
• Investigate and resolve complex issues across connected services with safe remediation plans.
• Build resilient, scalable, observable services with proper capacity and reliability patterns.
• Develop and maintain APIs with versioning and lifecycle strategies.
• Use profiling, logging, monitoring and testing to improve performance and quality.
• Lead code reviews and maintain high engineering standards.
• Collaborate with architects and tech leads to align with system design principles.
• Support customer-reported issues with clear communication on fixes and improvements.
• Strengthen secure coding, QA, patching and maintenance practices across the team.
• Document technical designs and adoption guidance for reuse by other teams.
