Job summary

Relation in London is seeking an Associate Director to lead the hybrid compute infrastructure and scientific compute environments powering machine learning and drug discovery. You will set technical direction across on-prem and cloud, build and develop a team of engineers, and partner with leaders across Engineering, Data Science and ML to evolve the platform strategy.

This role combines hands-on capabilities with strategic influence in a matrixed, interdisciplinary environment to deliver

Qualifications

• Significant experience in platform, infrastructure or DevOps engineering.
• Experience leading engineers with responsibility for strategy through delivery.
• Strong hands-on operations and incident response experience.
• Deep expertise in Kubernetes across hybrid on-premises and cloud environments.
• Experience with MLOps including Kubeflow and GPU training.
• Understanding of data pipelines reliability, scalability and reproducibility.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve Relation’s platform strategy in collaboration with peers.
• Own the architectural strategy for Kubernetes-based clusters and hybrid infrastructure.
• Lead Platform Engineering team, hire and develop engineers, set clear expectations.
• Own the scientific compute platform for ML/DS teams.
• Advance CI/CD pipelines and internal services, treating the platform as a product.
• Establish observability, disaster recovery and security controls across environments.
