Job summary

Relation is seeking an Associate Director, Platform Engineering to lead the team powering our hybrid compute infrastructure and scientific compute environments used for machine learning and drug discovery. You will set the technical direction across Kubernetes‑based clusters, own platform strategy, and mentor engineers while collaborating with Engineering, Data Science and ML leaders.

You will champion reliability, security, observability and CI/CD across on‑prem and cloud environments,

Qualifications

• Significant experience in platform, infrastructure or DevOps engineering.
• Experience leading engineers, with responsibility for significant workstreams from strategy through delivery.
• Hands-on operational experience, on-call rotations and incident responses.
• Deep expertise in Kubernetes across hybrid on-premises and cloud environments.
• Experience building/running Evolving MLOps infrastructure including Kubeflow notebooks and GPU compute.
• Strong security fundamentals and ability to design security controls.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve Relation’s platform strategy with VP of Engineering and peers.
• Own the architectural strategy for Kubernetes-based clusters and hybrid infrastructure.
• Lead and develop the Platform Engineering team, hiring engineers and setting expectations.
• Own the scientific compute platform to meet evolving ML and data science needs.
• Drive CI/CD pipelines, internal services and developer tooling, treating the platform as a product.
• Establish observability, disaster recovery, and failover strategies across on-prem and cloud.
• Own security controls including IAM, secrets management, network policy and vulnerability management.
