Skipton Building Society is seeking a Principal Engineer for the Core Banking platform to define engineering standards, patterns and paved roads that enable high performance, reliability and integrity across savings, mortgages and transactions. You’ll guide squads to deliver small, safe changes while maintaining compliance and security.

You’ll shape platform-wide technical direction, enabling product teams to deliver value faster and with confidence, while using long-lived, high-integrity

Qualifications

• High-performance delivery with low lead time and frequent deployments.
• Outcome-led thinking guided by telemetry and servicing insight.
• Deep craft in Core Banking engineering with domain knowledge.
• Collaborative leadership across Architecture, Security, QE, Release, Risk and Audit.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction and design platform foundations.
• Define Golden Path with secure pipelines and resilience-first patterns.
• Architect for reliability and observability, shaping contracts and boundaries.
• Shift left on quality with CI/CD, policy-as-code and security checks.
• Lead platform modernisation and reduce technical debt.
• Improve operational excellence with recovery drills and telemetry.
• Coach engineers and publish reusable templates and patterns.
• Work backwards from member outcomes to simplify servicing.
