Job summary

Zopa is seeking a Database Engineer to support mission-critical PostgreSQL and AWS services in a hybrid London-based role. You’ll automate DBA tasks, improve backup and monitoring, and collaborate with Cloud Infrastructure to move from SQL Server to PostgreSQL.

With a focus on reliability and security, you’ll partner with platform engineers and participate in on-call duties, contributing to a scalable, automated database platform for the business.

Qualifications

• Strong AWS experience with mission-critical PostgreSQL databases.
• Excellent PostgreSQL knowledge including backup and restore.
• Terraform and CI/CD experience focused on automation.
• Experience participating in on-call support for production services.
• Database-engineering mindset with platform automation.
• Ability to reason about reliability, resilience and security.
• Collaborative working style with platform engineers.

Responsibilities

• Support mission-critical PostgreSQL and AWS database services with disciplined operations.
• Automate DBA tasks using infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD and deployment pipelines.
• Improve backup, restore, monitoring and replication practices.
• Partner with Cloud Infrastructure on AWS, Terraform and platform patterns.
• Help engineers self-serve database capabilities with guardrails.
• Contribute to the move from SQL Server to PostgreSQL.
• Join the on-call rota and reduce avoidable alerts.
