Job summary

Autodesk is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to define and drive the technical direction of the Viewer ecosystem, delivering world-class commercial web applications for construction. You will lead cross‑team initiatives, shape architecture, and guide strategy across multiple teams to improve performance, scalability, and developer experience.

You will mentor senior engineers, partner with Product/UX, and evolve platform capabilities for long-term extensibility.

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
10+ years of professional software development experience on large-scale or platform systems.
Expert-level experience building large-scale web apps using React and TypeScript.
Strong experience designing complex architectures across teams or domains.
Deep understanding of high-performance distributed systems and SOA.
Proven ability to lead cross-team technical initiatives.
Experience with performance optimization, debugging, and production systems.
Experience with CI/CD and automated testing (Jest, Cypress).
Experience in Agile environments with short release cycles.
Ability to operate independently in ambiguous problem spaces and write clean code.
Excellent communication with senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Break down complex problems into executable plans.
Ensure architectural standards and engineering practices across teams.
Serve as technical authority on performance, scalability, and DX.

Improve velocity by introducing scalable tools and frameworks.
Lead root-cause analysis and implement durable solutions.
Mentor senior engineers and elevate engineering standards.
Collaborate with Product/UX to shape long-term roadmap and translate needs into strategy.
Evolve system architecture for long-term extensibility and performance.
