Job summary

Veolia UK at the East Transfer Station in Ware, Hertfordshire, is hiring a Waste Operations Operative to support loading, stockpile management and transport of materials at our facility. You will operate a wheeled loading shovel and assist with loading HGVs, ensuring safety and compliance.

The role involves 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday 07:00-16:30, with overtime on weekends when required. A valid loading shovel licence and NPORS/CPCS are essential; basic mechanical knowledge is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy plant and loading shovels.
• Valid Loading Shovel licence or equivalent.
• NPORS or CPCS cards preferred.
• Basic mechanical knowledge to assist maintenance and inspections.

Responsibilities

• Operate a wheeled loading shovel and load HGVs.
• Monitor stockpiles and transport items across the facility.
• Conduct daily pre-use safety inspections and report faults.
• Weighbridge duties when needed and maintain a clean, safe work area.

What will you be doing?

• Operating a wheeled loading shovel
• Loading HGV vehicles and operating the mobile shredder
• Monitor, organise, and maintain material stockpiles and transport items across the facility.

• Conduct daily pre-use safety inspections, perform basic upkeep like greasing and cleaning, and report any mechanical faults.
• Weighbridge duties when needed
• Follow all health, safety, and environmental regulations, wear required PPE, and keep work areas clean

What are we looking for?

• Loading Shovel licence and experience
• Similar operational heavy plant experience
• Valid operator competency cards such as NPORS or CPCS

• Basic mechanical knowledge
