Job summary

TD Recruitment is assisting a waste and recycling client in Keynsham (Bristol area) to recruit an experienced Plant Fitter. The role focuses on hands-on maintenance of fixed and mobile plant, with fault diagnosis and routine servicing to keep operations safe and efficient.

You will work across conveyors, shredders, loaders and site vehicles, performing mechanical repairs, welding when required, and maintaining service records. Overtime/on-call may be required.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent mechanical engineering qualification.
• Experience maintaining industrial plant in waste, recycling, quarrying, manufacturing or heavy industry.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Good knowledge of hydraulics, gearboxes, motors, bearings and conveyor systems.
• Ability to work independently and prioritise workload.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out planned preventative maintenance and responding to breakdowns.
• Diagnosing faults and repairing equipment including conveyors, screens, trommels, motors, gearboxes, bearings, belts and hydraulic systems.
• Maintaining mobile plant such as loading shovels, excavators, shredders and site vehicles.
• Completing mechanical repairs, welding and fabrication where required.
• Inspecting equipment, replacing worn components and keeping maintenance records up to date.
• Carrying out minor repairs to HGV equipment, buildings and site infrastructure.
• Working closely with the operations team to minimise downtime.
• Following all health and safety procedures and wearing the required PPE.
• Supporting overtime or on-call requirements when needed.

Our client is looking for an experienced Plant Fitter to join their busy Waste Transfer Station and Materials Recovery Facility (MRF).

This is a hands-on role maintaining and repairing both fixed and mobile plant, carrying out planned maintenance, fault finding and breakdown repairs to keep the site running safely and efficiently.

The Role

• Experience maintaining industrial plant within waste, recycling, quarrying, manufacturing or another heavy industry environment.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Good knowledge of hydraulics, gearboxes, motors, bearings and conveyor systems.
• Ability to work independently and prioritise workload.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

Experience with MIG/MMA welding and fabrication, electrical systems, HGV mechanical systems or plant such as excavators, loading shovels, forklifts and MEWPs would be advantageous.

Additional training and plant licences can be provided where required.

Working Environment

This is a practical, hands-on position working across workshop and outdoor areas. The role can involve dust, noise, changing weather conditions, manual handling and occasional working at height. Overtime and some weekend/on-call work may be required.
