North West Based | UK-Wide Travel | Permanent

The Opportunity

A well-established specialist engineering and infrastructure contractor is seeking an experienced Plant Fitter to take ownership of the maintenance, reliability and performance of a fleet of bespoke, light plant and specialist equipment used on safety-critical projects throughout the UK.

This is a hands-on role offering a mixture of workshop-based and field-based responsibilities. You'll play a key role in ensuring equipment remains operational, compliant and available for deployment, while providing technical support to site teams nationwide.

The position would suit someone with a background in small plant maintenance, field service engineering, mechanical engineering or workshop management who enjoys problem-solving and working autonomously.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair plant and equipment faults both in the workshop and at customer/project sites.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance, servicing and inspections on specialist machinery.
  • Manage maintenance schedules, service records and compliance documentation.
  • Undertake mechanical fault finding and repair work across hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.
  • Identify, source and procure replacement parts and components.
  • Maintain critical spare parts inventory and workshop stock levels.
  • Support equipment commissioning, testing and post-repair verification.
  • Deliver basic equipment and maintenance guidance to operational personnel.
  • Assist with equipment modifications, upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Undertake minor fabrication and workshop engineering activities where required.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures and industry standards.
  • Co-ordinate activities with external maintenance suppliers and contractors.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop environment.
