Job summary

Laing O'Rourke in the UK is seeking a Field Service Technician to provide nationwide maintenance, diagnostics and repairs for a broad plant fleet. You will respond to breakdowns and planned maintenance across sites, perform inspections and ensure safety and regulatory standards are met. The role requires travel and a proactive, independent work approach.

Qualifications

• Experience in servicing, diagnostics and repair of plant equipment.
• Ability to travel nationwide and cover sites across the UK.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Carry out servicing, diagnostics, repairs and support to a wide range of plant equipment.
• Respond to breakdowns and planned maintenance across sites nationwide.
• Complete inspections, testing and documentation in line with company procedures and safety standards.
• Liaise with plant managers, site teams and suppliers to minimise downtime.
• Ensure all work complies with health and safety and statutory requirements.
• Maintain a diverse plant fleet with strong mechanical, hydraulic and electrical fault-finding.

Job description

Role Purpose

To provide nationwide field-based maintenance, repair, and technical support for an extensive plant fleet, ensuring equipment remains safe, compliant, and operational to agreed standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out servicing, diagnostics, repairs, and support to a wide range of plant equipment.
• Respond to breakdowns and planned maintenance across sites nationwide.
• Complete inspections, testing, and documentation in line with company procedures and safety standards.
• Liaise with plant managers, site teams, and suppliers to minimise downtime.
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health & safety and statutory requirements.
• Proven previous experience in a similar plant field service or mobile technician role.
• Competent to Plant Maintenance Level 3 (or equivalent).
• Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical fault-finding skills.
• Experience maintaining a diverse plant fleet (e.g. construction, industrial, or hire equipment).

Requirements

• Clean, full driving licence (essential due to nationwide travel).
• Flexible approach to working hours and travel.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
