Job summary

Laing O'Rourke is seeking a mobile plant technician to provide nationwide field-based maintenance, repair and technical support for its extensive plant fleet. You will keep equipment safe, compliant and operational to agreed standards.

Ideal candidates have proven plant field service experience, Level 3 maintenance certification, and strong mechanical, hydraulic and electrical fault-finding skills, with solid IT knowledge and a flexible travel approach.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a similar plant field service or mobile technician role.
• Plant Maintenance Level 3 (or equivalent).
• Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical fault-finding skills.
• Experience maintaining a diverse plant fleet.
• Working knowledge of basic IT systems and applications.

Responsibilities

• Carry out servicing, diagnostics, repairs, and support to plant equipment.
• Respond to breakdowns and planned maintenance nationwide.
• Complete inspections, testing, and documentation per procedures.
• Liaise with site teams and suppliers to minimise downtime.
• Ensure work complies with health, safety and statutory requirements.

Job description

Role Purpose

To provide nationwide field-based maintenance, repair, and technical support for an extensive plant fleet, ensuring equipment remains safe, compliant, and operational to agreed standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out servicing, diagnostics, repairs, and support to a wide range of plant equipment.
• Respond to breakdowns and planned maintenance across sites nationwide.
• Complete inspections, testing, and documentation in line with company procedures and safety standards.
• Liaise with plant managers, site teams, and suppliers to minimise downtime.
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health & safety and statutory requirements.

Experience & Qualifications

• Proven previous experience in a similar plant field service or mobile technician role.
• Competent to Plant Maintenance Level 3 (or equivalent).
• Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical fault-finding skills.
• Experience maintaining a diverse plant fleet (e.g. construction, industrial, or hire equipment).
• Have a working knowledge of basic IT systems and applications

Requirements

• Clean, full driving licence (essential due to nationwide travel).
• Flexible approach to working hours and travel.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
• Good communication skills and professional attitude when dealing with site personnel.
